Cockatiel

Geographical area
The Cockatiel is native to Australia. It lives mainly outside the coastal regions of the island-mainland and in Tasmania. This bird especially likes grasslands and savannahs but does not mind living in urban areas.

Breed History
Zoologist Johann Georg Wagler made the description of the Cockatiel in 1832, but observers had already encountered it long before in its natural environment.

Today, the world population of Cockatiels is estimated at one million birds.

In some parts of Australia, it is considered a pest by farmers.
