Geographical area
The Diamond Dove is native to Australia, mainly in the country’s central, northern, and western regions.
Representatives of this species inhabit semi-arid areas near streams and water points. When conditions become unfavorable, including lack of food, they move south.
Breed History
The description of the Diamond Dove was made in 1801 by British naturalist John Latham.
Many individuals had been exported from Australia to South Africa in the past. But, then, it is from the latter that the birds of this species were sent to Belgium and the Netherlands to be exported to other European countries.
